Notes: You will have college tutors to help you during period 2. They will work with students in small groups to complete the Language of Shakespeare assignment instead of having tutorials today. Please have students number off 1-4, or however many college tutors you have, to make groups after completing the vocabulary assignment as a whole class. Please give each tutor a printed copy of this lesson plan so they can follow the instructions with their groups : )

Update planners with Agenda and HW
* Teacher or tutors will stamp or initial the papers of students who are respectful and on task. Each stamp is worth extra credit points!!*

  1. Announcements:
    • Students should stand for the Pledge of Allegiance, then listen QUIETLY to the announcements while they update their planners.
  2. Chapter 11 Vocabulary Acquisition Sheets
    • Students have their ch 11 acquisition sheets and there are extras for any who do not.
      1. Place my copy on the over head.
      2. Have students show you the physical representation (movement) for each of the five vocabulary words. They should say the word and definition as they do the movement.
      3. Students add the etymology to each word at the top (Latin, Greek etc.)
      4. Students copy the adjective/noun/verb forms of each word.
  3. Prologue of Romeo and Juliet (complete with tutors in small groups)
    1. Number off students 1-4 to make small groups for the tutors to work with.
    2. Hand out The Language of Shakespeare and read aloud the instructions as a group.
    3. Hand out the Prologue and read aloud stopping to discuss as necessary.
    4. The Prologue is also on p. 807 of the green Literature Books for help with defining words.
    5. Students may work together to complete the matching, then rewrite each line of the Prologue in modern day language that is easier to understand.
    6. Remember, only students who receive stamps or initials from the sub or tutors receive extra credit : )
  4. Blue Storm Check KWL Exit Ticket (In groups with tutors)
    • Students have their blue Storm Check Sheets and should take them out. There are extras for anyone who was absent on Monday and did not get one.
      1. In quadrant I, complete the "Learned" part of your KWL Chart with at least three facts you learned about Romeo and Juliet from reading and rewriting the Prologue.
      2. Tutors must initial your KWL before you can go to lunch!
